Colossians 3:23

Arena Ministry

Preacher Paul ministering at Cowboy Church Services in Kansas City during the American Royal Rodeo
Until Rodeo Ministries came along, there had never been an alternative to the
unrighteousness that permeated the rodeo circuit. Rodeo ministry is essentially that of a missionary
evangelist. Congregations change daily, involved relationships are difficult to maintain, and the
frequency of ministry to one individual may be only once in six weeks time. Meeting places are arenas,
barns, corrals, or the back of a pickup. Pulpits are barrels, hay bales, saddles or fence rails.
Offerings are practically non-existent - - cowboys are always broke. Yet these obstacles are no hindrance to
the mighty Spirit of God!!
Whenever possible Paul and Linda hold
services at the rodeos because "many times the only exposure some cowboys
have to ministers is on the radio and TV," says Paul. "We're trying to
make Jesus Christ relevant for them". During these services,
Linda plays the guitar and sings, and Christian cowboys are asked to share
their testimonies. Paul preaches and gives an invitation to kneel at
the altar.

Some of the ministry is in the form of preaching services held in turn with rodeo performances.
Personal confrontation is a larger portion of the ministry though, because of the fast-moving itinerant nature of rodeo.
Men and women are prayed with, counseled, confronted and served as they come and go in the bucking chute area, parking lot, and rodeo office.
The response to the Gospel in Rodeo has been of revival proportions. In 1977, 25 were led to Jesus - - in 1978, it was 75; in 1979, 150 souls were saved.
In 1983, over 300 souls were led to Jesus at Rodeos by the Scholtz family. And, year after year, the numbers just keep multiplying!!
Converts are funneled into local churches in their respective communities; usually over 250 souls annually are added to the body of Christ in this way.
